IMPOSSIBLE | "RARE METALS" COLOR 600 GOLD AND SILVER ROUND FRAME

"RARE METALS" COLOR 600 GOLD AND SILVER ROUND FRAME

-------------------------------------------------

Experimental photographer Oliver Blohm was the first to test out the film, “The new frames are very interesting for me, especially because they’re suspending our usual expectations and regulations surrounding what a typical image should look like. They offer an alternative approach, another way to compose the images and an exciting “new” point of view.

In the early years of photography, photographers would apply the emulsions by hand on the carrier plate and touched the images at the corners, which lead to uneven and dirty areas. To hide this, they would then set the pictures within round or oval-shaped frames so that only the neatest part was visible. As well as generating this vintage feeling of old images, it’s an unusual frame which is building up tension in a different way. We are used to seeing pictures in rectangles or squares and get used to it. The round frame is a really cool eye catcher in our image dominated world.

For me as a photographer the most important advantage is to play with the form, which is forced on the picture by the frame. I tried to focus on the middle and imagine where the circle could be. With this round frame design, the frame has a larger surface area than in other Impossible frame editions—generating another value of color and adding to the experience of the final images.
